3 Day Ayurvedic Kitchadi Cleanse

A Three Day Ayurvedic Kitchadi Cleanse can be done at any time of the year. But some of the best times to carry out such a cleanse is at the junction of two seasons example – Autumn time and Spring time.

Please find below suggestions for a simple three day Ayurvedic Kithadi cleanse that can be carried out at home.

A few points to remember:

O Best time to carry out such a cleanse is over the weekend so that the body gets enough rest during the period. So best would be a Friday, Saturday, Sunday, if you are working.
O Make sure to have all herbs/spices/oils and ingredients ready for those three days. You dont want to be running around when the body needs rest.
O The aim is to give the digestive fire or Agni a small break.
For women, it would best to avoid any such cleanses during periods. In Ayurveda during periods, the body needs extra rest and hence a cleanse may put added stress on the body.
O The aim is to have two main Kitchadi meals during the day – around 12pm and around 7pm.
O  Make sure to have plenty of steamed salads with every Kitchadi meal. Aim is to keep bowels open and moving so that it helps towards cleansing. For some recipes of steamed salads please click on recipes . Click Here
O Whenever hungry, not to go for any other snacks except fruits according to the season and region. Fruits are to be eaten alone. Not to be mixed with yoghurt or milk or any other foods.
Its best to prepare Kitchadi in the morning for the whole day so that you can spend rest of the day focusing on other cleansing activities.
O  On all these days you continue with your personal yoga practice, if you want to.

On all these days you continue with your personal yoga practice, if you want to. The aim is not to over strain or tire out the body. Even though we may not realise, but during the cleanse body is going through a lot of changes from within. The aim is to become mindful and aware of any small changes and respect the body, mind and emotions when they need their rest or break.
